Reapers Origins - Creatures So Dangerous Even Vampires Fear Them - Blade 2 Exploration - Wonderful Videos (2023)

Because it set the stage for all the greatness to come, Blade is a special franchise for Marvel. This superhero horror movie became an exciting and profitable franchise after the 1998 release of the first Blade movie.

Guillermo del Toro's Blade II story, written by David S. Goyer, and the cast, which included Wesley Snipes, contributed to the film's success. The idea of the Reaper virus was one of the more intriguing elements of the story. As this virus was able to correct some of the vampires' genetic flaws, some enhanced vampires known as Reapers were created.

The Reader virus was developed to make vampires stronger and increase their lethality, and the Reaper is sort of an updated version that removes some of the weaknesses that vampires have to deal with.

But the super agility and power they possessed turned out to be a problem for vampires as well. Due to their unnatural desire, reapers were constantly driven to devour blood, and even vampires were vulnerable to becoming their targets. To deal with the threat posed by the Reaper virus before it was too late, the vampires and Blade formed an uneasy alliance.

In this video, we take an in-depth look at the Reaper virus, covering everything from its history to its ins and outs. Stay tuned because this is the crown for vampire aficionados and Blade facing off against a seemingly unkillable vampire mutant form is one of the most intriguing vampire-related events of all time!

What is the Reaper Virus?

The Blade franchise takes an interesting take on vampirism. He describes vampirism as a kind of progressive virus, spread by vampire saliva. It is then replicated in the human host, whose cells are changed at a molecular level into something else entirely. The problem with viruses, however, is that they can evolve, naturally or through experiments!

It all started when the lord of the Vampire Nation, Eli Damaskinos, decided to correct the flaws in a vampire's genetic code. Vampires were vulnerable to sunlight, silver, and garlic, and Damaskinos wanted to create a new race that could resist these weaknesses.

Hereditary markers simulated the biological makeup of a Daywalker like Blade, and Damaskinos wanted to do the same for vampires. This would be the first step towards his goal of absolute vampire supremacy in the world. He tried this experiment on his own son Jared Nomak, who later became Patient Zero.

The experiment was only partially successful. Nomak was turned into a super vampire, but was still vulnerable to sunlight. The enzyme that caused the changes in Nomak had transmuting effects and was like a parasitic virus that could be transmitted from one vampire to another. In the process, they would be genetically altered and new parasitic organisms would be produced. This was the deadly Reaper strain that soon began to show its adverse effects.

Except for their super speed and agility, Reapers had no distinct superpowers. What made them so powerful was their need to feed and their difference from normal vampires! Reapers have a forked lower jaw and traditional jaw bone.

The jaw is split and has two fangs containing paralyzing neurotoxin at the tips. This can be effective in immobilizing prey, although there are cases where individuals have managed to counteract the paralyzing effects even after being bitten. To drink the blood of their victims, they have a muscular, proboscis-like tongue that ends in barbed tendrils. These barbs securely attach the victim's tongue and also inject the deadly virus.

They are well protected against any damage to the heart because their ribcage is almost structured like a solid bone shield with very little space. They have pale, albino skin and are hairless. Reapers also have a gill-like system on their backs, which is used to secrete a pheromone that attracts other Reapers to the scent of blood.

Was Nomak born a reaper or did he receive some kind of gene therapy like a normal vampire?

Jared Nomak was the son of vampire lord Eli Damaskinos, and was rigorously tested to create an invincible vampire. He was not born with the Reaper strain and was only introduced to it artificially. Once the Reaper strain was developed, Nomak was injected with it and soon mutated into a monstrous form. The virus changed his physiology and his thought process was also affected in the process. His bloodlust multiplied and his insatiable hunger made no distinction between human and vampire. Nomak would take advantage of both and soon become a threat to vampires as well.

Immediately after the experiment was performed on Nomak, Damaskinos found that it had failed in its purpose. He wanted to eliminate his son, but Nomak managed to escape. He then went on a killing spree across the Vampire Nation, with humans and vampires alike falling to his deadly attacks.

All of them were turned into Reapers and the Reaper strain began to spread at an alarming rate. Nomak was like the alpha male of the Reaper pack and had more self control and brains than the others. He also had better control of his bloodlust and had the ability to command the other Reapers to do his bidding. He resented his father, and the entire Vampire Nation must pay the price for his anger!

the unthinkable alliance

Extreme situations call for extreme measures. When Damaskinos realized that his own son had gone rogue and was now threatening the entire vampire clan, he approached Blade the vampire hunter. He closed the gap between himself and his archenemy, and wanted Blade to help the Blood pack and defeat Nomak. The Bloodpack was a team of vampire warriors that formed to destroy Blade. Now their priorities changed and they would work alongside Blade to fight Nomak and the Reapers.

Nomak was also aware of the threat Blade posed, which again points to his active intelligence. He exhibited animalistic behavior but still had the mind to strategize. He approached Blade and offered him an alliance, where they would kill vampires together. But Blade declined his offer and they engaged in a fierce battle. That's when Blade discovered that Reapers were quite different from normal vampires and much harder to defeat! ;:

The Reaper: Abilities and Weaknesses

Reapers Origins - Creatures So Dangerous Even Vampires Fear Them - Blade 2 Exploration - Wonderful Videos (5)

The whole purpose behind creating the Reaper strain was to develop a race of vampires that would be invincible. Although the experiment was not entirely successful, it did achieve some theme changes. For example, Nomak has been shown to be far more powerful than any human or other vampire. Only Blade has proven to match his strength, and he too has had to work really hard to get the best of Nomak.

As the first Reaper, he had an advantage over those who would follow. His DNA was the purest of the Reaper strain, and that was probably the secret behind his greater powers. His bloodlust was under his control to some extent, and he also had the ability to make the other Reapers fight for him. He was the only Reaper who could talk and stick to solid surfaces like a spider.

In general, Reapers have the same ability they had before they were transformed. However, the transformation gives them an added advantage due to their primitive instinct to feed. This extreme drive makes them desperate and they also show signs of great agility and strength. His regenerative powers were almost magical and seemed to survive the worst injuries. After Priest is infected with the Reaper strain, his head is chopped off to put him out of his misery.

The body is exposed to sunlight and burns, but the head remains alive for a long time. This is just one example that shows the extreme durability of the Reapers. It has been suggested that Reapers likely have an enhanced sense of smell. Their agility is also considerably greater than that of vampires or humans, as they scale walls and ceilings effortlessly before launching a surprise attack.

Reapers can withstand silver and garlic, but they still don't stand a chance against ultraviolet radiation. Natural ultraviolet radiation from the sun can burn their bodies, and even man-made sources such as UV lamps and other similar devices can cause fatal damage. The Reapers, other than Nomak, however, weren't exactly big thinkers. They had a basic primitive instinct to hunt prey and couldn't plan anything beyond their next meal!

(Video) Archangel Azrael: The Archangel of Death (Angels & Demons Explained)

They were powerless when it came to fighting the urge to feed, and if no prey was available, they too could become cannibals and attack each other. If they didn't find a food source in time, they would start to weaken by the hour. Just twelve hours without food can negatively affect them, and it has been shown that even if their brains are removed, their bodies still try to feed themselves.

The End of the Reaper Strain

Reapers Origins - Creatures So Dangerous Even Vampires Fear Them - Blade 2 Exploration - Wonderful Videos (6)

It is indicated that there were between fifty and one hundred Reapers who relentlessly attacked humans and vampires alike. When Blade first attacked him, Nomak displayed great stamina and strength. He survived even after being shot by a silver bullet, and the repeated injection of the anticoagulant EDTA didn't do him much harm either. However, his Reaper pack wasn't as invincible, and Blade managed to kill most of them with the Bloodpack's help.

We've already talked about how Jared Nomak wanted revenge on his father, the vampire lord Damaskinos. Even after losing most of his Reaper pack, he only attacked Damaskinos' sanctuary. His father's heightened security was no match for his insane strength, and most of them were slaughtered while trying to protect their leader.

Nomak ripped out Damaskinos' throat and proceeded to bite his sister Nysa to turn her into a Grim Reaper. Blade soon caught up with him, and they engaged in a fierce and intense final battle to the death. Blade finally managed to thrust his sword through the small opening in Nomak's protective ribcage, straight into his head. As he was dying, his body turned to ashes and this is probably the end of the Reaper Strain. There may be a few other Reaper survivors left, but they're unlikely to survive much longer without Nomak to guide them.
